Featuring E Ink® displays and low-power Wi-Fi modules, Room Booking System devices have exceptionally long battery life, with 13-inch Room Booking Systems operating up to 12 months on a single charge.
But certain circumstances can shorten or prolong the period between charges of your Room Booking System devices.
A good Wi-Fi connection means a long battery life
The quality of the Wi-Fi network your Room Booking System is connected to is one of the biggest factors when it comes to battery life.
Room Booking System devices are thin clients that require a strong and stable connection to communicate with your calendar in order to display whether the room is free and who booked the meeting. If this communication is broken, Room Booking System devices automatically attempt to reconnect to the network.
An unstable Wi-Fi connection will trigger a cycle of disconnects and reconnects, resulting in excessive battery drainage.
The simplest way to resolve this is to ensure the Wi-Fi signal strength between the Access Point and the Room Booking System device remains strong.
You can easily keep track of the Wi-Fi strength of each Room Booking System device in the Room Booking System Web Portal. If the Room Booking System Portal indicates that one of your devices has a weak signal, you might want to check what is causing it.
Check out our Wi-Fi network checklist and requirements to find what you need to keep an eye out for.
Your Room Booking System needs to take a break as well
Room Booking System devices do not have power buttons, so they remain active even when the last person leaves your office for the day.
A great way to improve battery performance is to utilize the "Office hours" feature available in your Room Booking System Web Portal. With it, you can set the time periods in which you want your Room Booking System devices to be active, and periods when Room Booking can go to sleep, greatly impacting the device's energy conservation.

Turn off the touch capabilities

If you don’t need the option to book or cancel meetings from the device, you can even further decrease the power consumption of your 6-inch devices by disabling the touch-screen capabilities in the Room Booking System Web Portal.
The device will continue to display the meetings and schedules, you just won't be able to book a meeting from it.
